You must apply in person at any of our Human Services Department application center locations.
The application process includes the completion of our required forms and a face-to-face interview with an eligibility worker. Benefits cannot be approved until all conditions of eligiblity have been verified. These conditions include, but are not limited to:
- Signing an agreement to cooperate with the Child Support Services to:

locate absent parents

establish paternity
-
obtain child support
- Applying for a Social Security number
- Verifying citizenship, or showing proof of legal immigration status
- Verifying income and property
- Applying for other potentially available income
Emergency Situation
Immediate need payments may be available for families with emergency situations while the CalWORKs application is being processed. The maximum immediate need payment is $200.
