How can I find work as a care provider?

IHSS consumers are the employer of IHSS care providers.  They are responsible to hire, supervise, and terminate their care provider.  If a consumer needs assistance to find an IHSS care provider, their IHSS Social Worker will refer them to the IHSS Provider Registry.  To complete the application process applicants must have fingerprint clearance through Live Scan.  Following fingerprint clearance applicants are invited to an orientation.  Then they can be referred for interviews.

To find out if the IHSS Provider Registry is accepting applications to be a care provider, call (831) 462-0880.

Other ways to find work as a care provider:

  • Word of mouth – Tell everyone you know that you are looking for work as a homecare provider.
  • Contact home health care agencies in the yellow pages to see if they are accepting applications.
  • Check the help wanted ads in the local papers.
  • Place an ad in the local newspaper (there is usually a charge for this service).
  • Apply at the local State Employment Development Department.
